You don't need to download anything from an app store. Any phone can add a Serve Source icon straight to the home screen from its browser — tap it like any other app, and it opens directly to the site.
iPhone or iPad — Safari
- Open Serve Source in Safari.
- Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up) in the toolbar.
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name (or edit it) and tap Add in the top right.
The Serve Source icon appears on your home screen and can be dragged and rearranged like any other app icon.
iPhone or iPad — Chrome
- Within Chrome on your iPhone, tap the share icon on the right side of the address bar.
- Scroll down to Add to Home Screen.
- Turn off Open as Web App, then tap Add.
The Serve Source icon is added to your home screen and can be rearranged the same way as any other icon.
Android — Chrome
- Open Serve Source in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right corner.
- Tap Add to Home screen (some versions show Install app instead).
- Confirm the name and tap Add, then Add to Home screen again if a second confirmation appears.
The icon lands on your home screen and opens Serve Source directly, without going through Chrome's normal tabs and address bar.
How does this help?
Once it's on your home screen, getting back to Serve Source is one tap — no re-typing the address, no digging through bookmarks or old browser tabs. It's especially handy in the middle of a disaster response, when you need to check something on the map or update a listing quickly.
