How to Pray for a Disaster Response

Last updated: September 12, 2026

Praying is open to anyone โ€” logged in or not โ€” and it does two things: it's a real commitment you can make for the people affected by a disaster and the organizations responding to it, and it lets survivors see, in a real number on the page, that people across the country are praying for them.

  1. On a disaster's page, look for the prayer count (for example, "๐Ÿ™ 47 People Praying") and the Commit to Praying card in the sidebar.
  2. Click I'm Praying.
  3. Optionally add:
    • Your Zip/Postal Code โ€” used only to show your general location on the prayer map. It's fuzzed with a random offset of a couple of miles before it's stored, so it can't be used to pinpoint you.
    • A short Message of encouragement (up to 500 characters).
    • Your Email Address, if you're not logged in.
  4. Submit.

Once at least a couple of people have prayed for a disaster, a toggle appears on the map letting anyone overlay prayer pins alongside the response pins โ€” a visual reminder, right on the map, that people are praying for the response.
