Why We Exist

To connect, collaborate, and coordinate together with like-minded churches and response organizations, to be prepared to serve the needs of those affected by disaster/crisis with excellence, and to create an environment to share Christ and grow the local church.

Philippians 2:1-4 — Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

1 Peter 4:10 — Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

Values

1. Kingdom Focused. Disaster response is an opportunity to serve those in need, which creates the environment to share the Hope we have in Jesus. We always put the Kingdom over our organizational agenda in how we work together, relate, and operate.
2. We make the local Church the Hero. We recognize the Church as God's plan for community and life transformation — so we use our partnerships to raise the local Church's influence, expand its capacity, follow its lead, and promote it as the local hero.
3. We believe we are Better Together. We value relationships and serving together, because we share common goals. Working together expands our impact.
4. We Value Uniqueness. We do not seek to control, conform, or restrict any organization, church, or person's calling or vision. Instead, through relational collaboration, we look for common ground where we can link arms and serve communities well.

Please read these Terms carefully. They govern your use of Serve Source's websites and services, describe what you can and can't do with the information we publish, and explain how disputes between you and Serve Source are resolved.

1. Who We Are and What These Terms Cover

Serve Source ("Serve Source," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Round Rock, Texas. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of servesource.org, app.servesource.org, and any related services, features, or content we make available (together, the "Site").

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

We may update these Terms from time to time; see Section 22 ("Changes to These Terms"). Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

Legal language: This is a binding agreement between you and Serve Source. "You" means any individual or organization that accesses or uses the Site, whether or not you create an account. Serve Source reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time, with or without notice.

2. Who Can Use the Site, and Accounts

Anyone can browse public parts of the Site — disaster and response information, organization listings, community resources, and public forms (like submitting a prayer request or a community impact report) — without creating an account.

Some parts of the Site require an account, primarily for staff of partner organizations, emergency managers, and Serve Source administrators, so they can manage listings, respond to requests, and coordinate with other partners. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.

Legal language: By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age and that the information you provide is accurate, complete, and current. Serve Source may, in its sole discretion, refuse to create, suspend, or terminate any account, and may remove or edit content associated with an account, at any time and without notice, including for violation of these Terms. You must notify us promptly at info@servesource.org if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. Serve Source is not liable for any loss caused by unauthorized use of your account, though you may be liable to Serve Source or others for losses caused by such unauthorized use.

3. What Serve Source Publishes, and Where the Information Comes From

Serve Source publishes information about disasters, the organizations responding to them, and ways people can help — through prayer, financial partnership, or volunteering with a partner organization. This information comes from several places: what organizations submit or update themselves, publicly available information Serve Source gathers about disaster response efforts, and information Serve Source enters or updates on behalf of an organization it's connected with or believes is mission-aligned, in order to help amplify that organization's work.

When we enter or update information on an organization's behalf, we do our best to reflect that organization's own public communications accurately, but we don't independently verify every detail, and an error in the original source could be repeated or, occasionally, introduced by us. The organization remains responsible for the accuracy of information about its own activities and should let us know promptly at info@servesource.org if something needs correcting.

Legal language: Organizations that submit information to the Site are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and lawfulness of that information. Serve Source does not independently verify organization-submitted or organization-related content, whether submitted by the organization itself or entered by Serve Source on the organization's behalf based on publicly available information or the organization's communications, and disclaims any duty to do so. Serve Source may edit, update, or remove any listing at its sole discretion.

4. Accuracy of Information and Your Responsibility to Verify

We make every effort to keep information on the Site current and accurate. But disaster response is fast-moving, and sometimes chaotic — information that was accurate when first published (a need, an opportunity, a report of activity) can later prove to be outdated, exaggerated, or simply incorrect. This happens most often in the early, fluid days after a disaster.

Please use good judgment and do your own due diligence before acting on information from the Site, especially anything involving a financial commitment, travel to serve, or a safety-critical decision.

Legal language: THE SITE AND ALL INFORMATION ON IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Serve Source disclaims all liability for actions taken or not taken in reliance on information found on the Site, and recommends independent verification before relying on any time-sensitive, financial, or safety-related information.

5. Organization Profiles and the Public Map

Serve Source sometimes creates or maintains a public profile for an organization we're connected with, or believe is mission-aligned, and adds it to our public map — even before that organization has an account with us — as a way of magnifying its work and helping the public and other partners find it.

Being listed on Serve Source does not mean the organization endorses Serve Source, and it does not mean Serve Source endorses everything the organization does — only that we believe the listed information is accurate and relevant to our mission of connecting people to disaster response and community efforts. Any organization can ask us to correct, take ownership of ("claim"), or remove its listing at any time, whether or not it has ever had an account with us, by contacting info@servesource.org or, where available, using the Site's organization-claim process (which may verify your request using your organization's email domain).

Legal language: Serve Source retains sole discretion over whether, when, and how to create, maintain, or remove an organization profile. Inclusion of an organization on the Site is not an endorsement by Serve Source of that organization, and is not to be construed as that organization's endorsement of Serve Source. Serve Source will act on a verified request from an organization to correct, claim, or remove its own listing within a reasonable time.

6. Organization Names, Logos, and Trademarks

To accurately represent the partner organizations listed on the Site, Serve Source displays each organization's own name, logo, and branding as that organization has provided it or made it publicly available. These marks belong to their respective organizations, not to Serve Source.

Legal language: Organization names, logos, and trademarks displayed on the Site remain the property of their respective owners. Serve Source uses them solely to identify and accurately represent the organization in connection with its listing, and does not claim any ownership interest in them. An organization may request that Serve Source stop using its name or logo, or correct how it is displayed, at any time by contacting info@servesource.org.

7. Resources and Downloadable Materials

The Site's Resources section (currently at /resources) includes materials Serve Source has developed itself, as well as materials made available by our partner organizations. Serve Source-authored materials belong to Serve Source; partner-provided materials remain the property of the partner that created them and are made available with that partner's permission.

Resources are provided for general educational and informational purposes to support disaster-response and community-service activities. They are not a substitute for professional training, a site-specific safety assessment, licensed professional services, applicable law or building codes, manufacturer instructions, or direction from emergency management, public health, utility, fire, building, or other appropriate authorities. Using a resource from the Site does not certify, qualify, authorize, or approve you or your organization to perform any particular activity, and conditions at any given location can vary significantly — no resource can identify every hazard you might encounter.

You, your team, and your organization are responsible for evaluating conditions at your own work site, determining whether work can be performed safely and lawfully, using appropriate protective equipment, and stopping work when conditions exceed your training, equipment, authorization, or capabilities.

Legal language: SERVE SOURCE MAKES NO REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY THAT FOLLOWING ANY RESOURCE ON THE SITE WILL ELIMINATE ALL HAZARDS, PREVENT INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE, REMEDIATE ANY HAZARDOUS CONDITION, OR MAKE A STRUCTURE SAFE FOR OCCUPANCY. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SERVE SOURCE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND AFFILIATED OR PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURY, ILLNESS, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOSS, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE USE OR MISUSE OF ANY RESOURCE. Nothing in a resource creates an employment, agency, contractor, partnership, joint-venture, supervisory, or other legal relationship between Serve Source and any person or organization using it. Resources should be used together with applicable federal, state, and local law; occupational safety requirements; current guidance from public health and emergency management authorities; applicable building requirements; and manufacturer instructions. Individual resources may include their own additional, more specific safety notices; those supplement, and do not replace, this section.

8. Restrictions on Use — No Scraping, Reproduction, or AI Training

Serve Source publishes disaster and organization data for two audiences: people who need help finding it — including through search engines and AI tools that can look up and cite a single answer to a specific question, the same way a person would search "disaster help near me" — and partner organizations and churches trying to understand who else is responding, to reduce gaps in service. That kind of individual, query-at-a-time lookup and citation is exactly what we intend, and it's consistent with the technical access policies we publish on the Site (such as our robots.txt file).

What is not allowed, without Serve Source's prior written permission, is taking our data wholesale — copying, scraping, or harvesting it in bulk, whether by hand or with automated tools — and using it to republish or redistribute our content, build a competing product or directory, compile mailing or contact lists, or train or fine-tune an artificial intelligence or machine learning model.

Legal language: Except as expressly permitted below, you may not, without Serve Source's prior written consent:

• Use any automated means (including bots, scrapers, crawlers, or scripts) or manual means to systematically collect, copy, extract, or harvest data or content from the Site;
• Reproduce, republish, redistribute, or create a derivative work from Site content or data, in whole or substantial part, in any medium;
• Use Site content or data to build, train, fine-tune, or evaluate an artificial intelligence or machine learning model of any kind;
• Use the Site, or data obtained from it, to build or populate a mailing list, contact list, or organization directory not authorized by Serve Source, or to contact organizations or individuals found on the Site in a mass or unsolicited manner;
• Mirror, replicate, or substantially reproduce the Site's database or dataset in another product, application, or public dataset;
• Use the Site or its data to build or operate a competing disaster-response coordination product or service;
• Access the Site or any interface it makes available by means other than as Serve Source has documented, or in excess of any volume or rate limits Serve Source has documented;
• Use automated means to monitor the Site's pricing, availability, or content for competitive intelligence purposes; or
• Present, republish, or cite Site data in a way that misrepresents its source, or without appropriate attribution to Serve Source.

The following are permitted: (a) ordinary indexing and query-time retrieval or citation by search engines and AI tools operating consistently with Serve Source's published technical access policies; (b) sharing content using the social-sharing features Serve Source itself provides on the Site; and (c) access under a separate written data-partnership agreement with Serve Source.

Serve Source may, at its sole discretion, suspend or terminate access, remove content, and pursue legal action against anyone who violates this section.

9. Contacting Organizations — No Mass Outreach

The Site is meant to help you connect meaningfully with specific opportunities and organizations — not to serve as a database for mass outreach. Don't use contact information found on the Site to build a contact list, or to mass-contact or solicit organizations or individuals, outside of the specific opportunity or connection you're pursuing.

Legal language: Any use of contact information obtained through the Site for mass solicitation, unsolicited commercial communication, or list-building not authorized by Serve Source is a violation of these Terms and may result in termination of access and legal action.

10. Interactions With Organizations and Other Users

Serve Source helps you find and connect with organizations, volunteers, and opportunities — but we don't run background checks on the organizations or individuals you may meet through the Site, and we don't independently verify everyone's statements. Before you volunteer with an organization, attend an event, or otherwise engage in person with someone you found through the Site, please use reasonable care and your own judgment, the same way you would with any new connection.

Legal language: SERVE SOURCE DOES NOT INVESTIGATE THE BACKGROUNDS OF ORGANIZATIONS OR INDIVIDUALS FOUND ON THE SITE, OR VERIFY THEIR STATEMENTS, AND DOES NOT REPRESENT, WARRANT, OR GUARANTEE THEIR CONDUCT. YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS AND ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING ANY IN-PERSON MEETING, EVENT, VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY, OR TRANSACTION. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Serve Source is not liable for any injury, property damage, loss, or other harm arising from your interactions with, or reliance on, another user or organization found through the Site.

11. Content You Submit and Community Standards

If you submit content to the Site — a testimonial, a community impact report, a prayer request, an event registration, or anything else — you're responsible for making sure it's accurate, lawful, and doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights. Please don't submit content that's hateful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, spam, an unauthorized promotion or solicitation, or that references or facilitates illegal activity; we'll remove it if you do, and may take further action.

If you send us an unsolicited idea, suggestion, or proposal that we didn't ask for, please know we may use it without any obligation to keep it confidential or compensate you — we'd rather you know that upfront than assume otherwise.

Legal language: You represent that any content you submit is accurate to your knowledge, lawful, and does not infringe any third party's rights. You grant Serve Source a worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, adapt, translate, display, publish, and distribute content you submit, and the right to sublicense and to enforce these rights against infringement by others, for purposes consistent with Serve Source's mission (such as displaying a testimonial or a submitted community report). Serve Source may edit, decline to publish, or remove submitted content at its sole discretion, including content that violates the community standards described above, and undertakes no obligation to monitor submissions, though it may do so. Any unsolicited idea, suggestion, or business proposal you send Serve Source is deemed non-confidential and non-proprietary, and Serve Source may use it without obligation to you, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing.

12. Access Is at Serve Source's Discretion

Serve Source partners selectively, in line with our mission, vision, and values. Not every request for access, partnership, or participation will be a fit, and we reserve the right to decline, limit, or revoke an organization's or individual's access to all or part of the Site, our services, or our events, at our discretion.

Legal language: Serve Source reserves the right to deny, limit, or revoke access to the Site, its services, or its events to any organization or individual, at its sole discretion and without obligation to state a reason, subject to applicable law.

13. Donations

Serve Source currently accepts donations to support its mission; donations are processed through Overflow or Stripe, and Serve Source does not receive or store your card number. Membership on Serve Source is currently offered without a fee. If that changes, updated terms — including any applicable fees, billing, and cancellation/refund policy — will be posted here, and organizations will be notified before being charged.

We may occasionally describe a donation as having helped a particular organization join Serve Source, or supported a particular disaster response, as a way of telling that story (for example, "your gift helped the next organization join"). Serve Source retains full discretion over the use of donated funds. Any organization-specific or disaster-specific attribution is for storytelling purposes only, and all gifts become the property of Serve Source and are used to further its mission.

Serve Source is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law; please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific situation. Refunds are handled at Serve Source's discretion on a case-by-case basis — contact info@servesource.org.

Legal language: By making a donation, you authorize Serve Source's payment processor to process the transaction using the payment method you provide. Except as otherwise stated in writing by Serve Source, all donations are non-refundable and become the unrestricted property of Serve Source upon receipt, to be used at Serve Source's discretion consistent with its charitable mission. Serve Source may in the future offer paid memberships, ticketed events, or other paid products or services; if it does, these Terms will be updated to include applicable payment, billing, and refund terms, which will be presented to you before you are charged.

14. Intellectual Property

The content, data, design, and materials on the Site — other than content you submit and other than third-party organization names/logos and partner-provided resources, covered in Sections 6 and 7 — belong to Serve Source or its licensors. We grant you a limited license to view and download Site content for your personal, non-commercial reference. You may not reproduce, republish, or create derivative works from Site content except as permitted under Section 8 ("Restrictions on Use") or with our prior written consent.

Legal language: "Serve Source" and associated names and logos are trademarks of Serve Source and may not be used without our express written consent. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved. Serve Source may seek injunctive and other equitable relief, without posting a bond, for any violation of this section, in addition to any other remedies available at law.

15. Copyright Concerns

If you believe your copyrighted work has been used on the Site in a way that isn't authorized, please contact us at info@servesource.org with (a) a description of the copyrighted work, (b) the location of the material you believe infringes it, (c) your contact information, and (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized. We'll review the request and, if warranted, remove or address the material. This is an informal process; it does not constitute a formal statutory notice-and-takedown procedure.

16. Third-Party Links and Services

The Site may link to third-party websites and services that Serve Source doesn't control. We're not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of those third parties, and linking to them doesn't imply our endorsement. Use of any third-party site or service is at your own risk and subject to that party's own terms.

17. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Serve Source and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages of any kind arising from your use of the Site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Serve Source's total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Site will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid Serve Source, if any, in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Site must be filed within one year after it arose, or it is permanently barred, to the extent permitted by law.

18. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Serve Source and its officers, employees, and agents from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or content you submit.

19. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

This section is still under internal review and may change before this document is published — see the note at the top of this file.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Commercial Arbitration Rules, seated in Williamson County, Texas, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court. You and Serve Source each waive the right to bring or participate in a class, consolidated, or representative action, except where such a waiver is prohibited by law.

20. Electronic Communications

If you email us, register for an account, or otherwise give us your email address, you agree to receive communications from us electronically, and you agree that our electronic communications satisfy any legal requirement that a notice be in writing.

21. Miscellaneous

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in full effect, and the unenforceable provision will be interpreted to accomplish its original intent as closely as possible. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Serve Source regarding the Site, and supersede any prior agreements on the subject. Serve Source's failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of its right to do so later. You may not assign these Terms without Serve Source's prior written consent; Serve Source may assign these Terms at its discretion. Notices to Serve Source should be sent to the contact information in Section 23; notices to you may be sent to the email address associated with your account or submission.

22. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
