South Texas and Hill Country Flooding July 2026
Repeated slow-moving storms have produced widespread and deadly flooding across South Texas and the Western Hill Country. At least two deaths have been confirmed, more than 570 people have been rescued, and residents are beginning to return to flood-damaged homes as emergency operations transition toward sheltering, damage assessment, debris removal, and initial cleanup.
Some of the most significant impacts have occurred in Uvalde County, where isolated rainfall totals exceeded two feet and approached approximately 28 inches in portions of Uvalde and neighboring Kerr County. Floodwater entered homes, damaged streets and bridges, deposited mud and debris throughout neighborhoods, and temporarily cut off most major routes into Uvalde. Waterlines reached approximately three feet in some homes, while residents have reported even deeper flooding at other properties.
Significant residential, commercial, RV park, roadway, and infrastructure damage has also been reported around Kerrville, Goat Creek, Center Point, Comfort, Hondo, D'Hanis, Bandera County, Boerne, Ozona, and other affected communities. Although rainfall has eased in some locations, floodwater continues moving downstream through the Nueces River basin, creating new evacuation, transportation, livestock, and residential risks in portions of Zavala and Dimmit counties. Officials have not yet released a verified regional count of damaged homes.

Mercy Chefs
As flooding impacts communities across Southwest Texas, Mercy Chefs is expanding our response to meet the growing need. Parts of the region have already received more than 10 inches of rain, triggering dangerous flash flooding and water rescues. Using team members and some of the resources we’ve had in Kerr County for more than a year, we’re deploying additional assets to begin serving neighboring counties and communities. This afternoon, we’ll begin serving hot, chef-prepared meals to families impacted by the flooding, as well as volunteers and first responders. The Texas Hill Country has become close to our hearts over the past year. After walking alongside this community through last summer’s devastating floods, we’re committed to standing with Texans once again as they face another difficult chapter. Please pray for those impacted, and for our team as they go feed body and soul. See website for support and volunteer details.
