Colorado Wildfires – Aspen Acres Fire (Pueblo County)
The Aspen Acres Fire continues to burn across Pueblo and Custer Counties in southern Colorado near Rye, Beulah, San Isabel, Wetmore, and Colorado City. While firefighters have made significant progress over the past week, the fire remains one of Colorado's largest active wildfires.
As of the latest incident update, the fire has burned approximately 100,224 acres and is 61% contained. More than 1,600 firefighters and support personnel remain assigned to suppression operations, structure protection, patrol, and rehabilitation efforts. InciWeb Incident Information
Containment efforts have steadily improved thanks to favorable weather, extensive aerial and ground operations, and weeks of coordinated work along the fire perimeter. Incident management teams are now focusing on extinguishing remaining hot spots, strengthening containment lines, repairing fire suppression impacts, and reducing erosion concerns in burned areas. The Colorado Sun
Many evacuation orders have been downgraded or lifted as conditions improve, allowing additional residents to return home. However, some areas remain under evacuation or pre-evacuation status while officials continue assessing hazards, damaged infrastructure, and wildfire risks. Residents returning home are encouraged to follow local guidance regarding utilities, air quality, and the potential for flash flooding in recently burned areas.
Pueblo County Sheriff's Office – Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control
Damage assessments continue across both counties. Hundreds of homes and other structures have been destroyed or damaged, while many additional properties are expected to require smoke remediation and long-term recovery assistance. Local officials continue conducting detailed inspections before final damage totals are released. The Colorado Sun
