Flood Watch for Parts of California

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Affected area: A portion of Southwest California, including the following areas, Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Coachella Valley, Riverside County Mountains, San Bernardino County Mountains, San Diego County Coastal Areas, San Diego County Deserts, San Diego County Mountains, San Diego County Valleys and San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. - Tropical Storm Rachel will bring periods of moderate to heavy rain to all of San Diego County, Riverside County mountains and deserts, and San Bernardino County mountains and deserts. Maximum hourly rainfall rates of 0.50 to 0.60 inches per hour are possible for San Diego Coast and Valleys. Maximum hourly rainfall rates of 0.50 to 0.70 inches per hour are possible across area deserts and 0.70 to 1 inch per hour rates are possible across area mountains. Heaviest rainfall is most likely late Saturday night through early Sunday afternoon. Rainfall will taper off from south to north Sunday. Lingering lighter showers are expected to continue into Monday.

Flood Watch for Parts of Virginia

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Affected area: Portions of central, northern, and northwest Virginia, including the following areas, in central Virginia, Albemarle, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Greene, Nelson and Orange. In northern Virginia, Culpeper, Northern Fauquier and Southern Fauquier. In northwest Virginia, Madison, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Rappahannock. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. - The remnants of Isaias will bring a tropical air mass much into the Mid-Atlantic region late tonight into Sunday. Storms should be highly efficient in this environment and capable of producing several inches of rain throughout the duration of the event. Storm total rainfall is expected to be around 2 to 3 inches, with pockets of 3 to 5 inches along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge.
