A widespread wildfire outbreak across Eastern Washington escalated into a major wildland–urban interface disaster on August 1, when the Old Trails, Autumn Lane, and Fairview fires swept into communities around Spokane. Approximately 64,000 people were ordered to evacuate, with some reporting placing the peak near 67,000, and hundreds of homes, businesses, and other buildings were destroyed. No fire-related deaths or major injuries have been confirmed, although damage assessments remain preliminary and there are reports of people missing. As of August 5, the three Spokane-area fires had burned a combined 10,546 acres and remained 0% contained. Federal fire officials list 707 structures lost but officials have not yet released a confirmed residential-home-only total.
