One Gen Away

One Generation Away is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been feeding bellies and souls since 2013. Founded by Chris and Elaine Whitney, OneGenAway rescues high-quality, surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and caterers and redistributes that food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.1. Mobile Food Pantries We operate regular mobile pantries throughout Middle Tennessee, delivering fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy, and protein directly into neighborhoods with limited access to nutritious food. These pantries serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, including children, working adults, seniors, and those without reliable transportation. 2. Partner Agency Distribution We supply food to local nonprofit partners—churches, community centers, and social service organizations—that serve their own communities. This extends our impact by supporting front-line organizations addressing ongoing hunger needs across the region. 3. Disaster Relief We look to assist groups that on the ground immediately with food resources that are requested as we have them available. We then reach out 3-4 months after the disaster to find partners that want to do food distributions as the city/region recovers. We then look to make a long term commitment (8 months to 2 years) to providing food for a mobile food distribution that will feed 300 families a full grocery cart full of food (about 85 pounds, that includes fresh produce).
