Repeated thunderstorms produced severe flash flooding across portions of southeastern Ohio beginning overnight August 10–11, with some of the worst impacts in Perry, Muskingum, Morgan, and Athens counties . The National Weather Service reported 4–6 inches of rain in portions of the hardest-hit area, flooding numerous homes, vehicles, and roads; hundreds of residents required rescue or evacuation around Crooksville, New Lexington, and Roseville, and Ohio deployed 40 Army National Guard personnel along with state and local swift-water rescue resources. Flooding remained active into August 12 farther southeast, where the Hocking River at Athens rose from about 3.2 feet on August 10 to 18.8 feet on August 12 , and Sunday Creek at Glouster crested above 17 feet , flooding homes and roads. Emergency shelters, temporary housing, muck-out and debris removal, food and water, power restoration, cleanup supplies, and assistance to uninsured or underinsured homeowners represent significant potential roles for churches and nonprofit response organizations.
Volunteers will assist homeowners affected by recent flooding and will help in Jesus' Name with content recovery, debris cleanup, and mudouts. There will be opportunities for overnight and day volunteers. No skills are necessary prior to serving. Volunteers will be led and instructed by experienced team leads.
God's Pit Crew is sending a semi load of blessing buckets and other life sustaining goods to Ohio to assist flood survivors.
