Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensified into a major Category 5 hurricane and made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday, Oct. 28th. The NWS has officially rated the hurricane at 892 mbar right before landfall with sustained winds at 185 mph and wind gusts up to 215 mph. This is the strongest landfilling atlantic hurricane of all time and the storm of the century for Jamaica . Rebuilding is estimated to take 10 years or more. Relief organizations were pre-positioned with supplies and are coordinating response efforts in multiple countries.
