Current Situation Serve Source is monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias for potentially significant impacts to communities, churches, and disaster response partners along the northern Gulf Coast and inland portions of the southeastern United States. Formerly designated Invest 92L and Tropical Depression Nine, the system strengthened into Tropical Storm Isaias on October 7. As of the National Hurricane Center’s 4:00 AM CDT advisory, Isaias was located in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, moving east-northeast at approximately 8 mph. The storm is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday, potentially reaching Category 2 intensity before approaching the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday. Current forecasts indicate the greatest potential for significant impacts across southeastern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle. However, communities throughout the northern Gulf Coast, including southeastern Louisiana, should continue monitoring the storm as its track, intensity, and areas of greatest impact remain subject to change. Potential hazards include damaging hurricane-force winds, dangerous storm surge, coastal and inland flooding, tornadoes, widespread power outages, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Forecast rainfall totals generally range from 4–8 inches in significantly affected areas, with locally higher amounts possible. Coastal communities could experience storm surge flooding, while heavy rainfall and damaging winds may extend inland through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and surrounding states as the storm moves northward. Emergency management agencies are preparing for potential impacts, and residents in forecast-affected areas are encouraged to review preparedness plans, monitor official weather advisories, and follow guidance from local authorities.
