A catastrophic flash flood surged from the Nepal–Tibet border through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors on August 25, sweeping away homes, villages, roads, bridges, vehicles, police facilities, and hydropower infrastructure across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and portions of Chitwan districts. At least 31 people have died, 93 have been injured, and 384 travelers were preliminarily listed as unaccounted for, although authorities are still verifying those manifests. Approximately 60 homes were reportedly swept away near Trishuli Bazaar, while entire riverbank settlements around Timure and Syabrubesi sustained severe but still-unquantified destruction. Search and rescue operations remain underway, and authorities have warned that an upstream blockage could produce another flood surge.
At least 384 travelers were preliminarily listed as unaccounted for by the Nepal Tourism Board, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepalis. The number of displaced or otherwise affected residents has not yet been reported, and authorities are still reconciling overlapping missing-person lists.
