A tornadic supercell moved through Coles County, Illinois, on June 17, producing damage from the north side of Mattoon into Charleston. Preliminary reports include mobile homes destroyed or flipped, apartment-building roof and siding damage, significant tree damage, downed power lines, debris-covered roads, and damage at the Coles County Fairgrounds and Charleston Middle School.
The City of Charleston declared a local state of emergency and opened a storm-relief food and water distribution site at Eastern Illinois University’s Doudna Fine Arts Center for affected residents.
